What is Ozone?
Very simply, ozone (O3) is the gas that is formed when oxygen (O2) is contacted by an electric charge. Ozone occurs naturally when lighting converts normal air (oxygen) into ozone gas during a storm or in the atmosphere. You may have noticed the presence of ozone gas when the air smells distinctly fresh and clean after a heavy storm.
Our machines, like many ozone generators, re-create this conversion by pulling normal oxygen into a high voltage module, shocking it, then pushing it back out in the form of ozone gas.
How is Ozone used to clean air?
When ozone gas comes in contact with odor-causing volotile organic compounds (VOC’s) it reacts chemically (oxidation) to produce a harmless, non-odorous, neutral substance.
The function of an ozone generator then is to produce enough ozone gas to saturate an entire area that may be filled with such VOC’s to oxidize and eliminate them. The higher output of ozone gas the better the VOC’s are eliminated.
Most bacteria, pathogens, and mold spores are neutralized by ozone gas in the same manner making an ozone generator much more than a simple masking agent.
